Humanity's Greatest Fear, And How Far They'll Go To Avoid It.
Do you really know what people fear more than anything?
Every week, I go on multiple hikes in nature to free my mind, allow processing, and welcome intuitive thoughts in a safe frequency.
Most of the time, this activity helps me grow individually and I don't share much of what happens out there.
But this past week, Something rather interesting has come through and I think it's worth sharing this angle with you all.
I'm sure you all have your opinions on what Humanity's greatest fear is
Some of you may even be on the side of: "Who Cares, what's in it for me"
Well before we get into the main topic of today's essay, I'd like to first tell you why this info can be useful for you.
Most people tend to avoid negative subject talk that doesn't directly impact their lives.
It's a way for us as humans to protect ourselves from more baggage being piled on in our lives.
After all, we've all already got way more than enough going on right? So why would you take on more?
The mind is a master at realizing when it's at maximum capacity—once it gets there, it deflects everything else in order to protect the psyche until it has room again.
In my opinion which comes from personal experience, it is beneficial to know how humans operate and how they behave because when you tune into that, you're basically telling the universe that you have a willingness to understand yourself and your species.
Here's what I've learned: when you really get yourself AND how people actually operate, you can finally build the relationships you deserve.
Feel free to read that again because that's the prize for doing this kind of work.
If you haven't taken the time to observe yourself and understand the world around you, how do you expect life to unfold in the way you want it to?
Imagine trying to cook a meal without understanding how the cooking process works.
The point is, in order to know something well, we need to be willing to understand how it works first.
I've always been fascinated by human behavior. You can learn so much from others just by observing their behavior from a non judgmental place.
What does that look like?
You tune into a decision they're making and how they're acting about it but instead of judging them, you place yourself in their shoes.
You'll know you're there when you can step back and say to yourself
Ah, I can actually see why they're:
Acting that way
Making that decision
Feeling these types of emotions
Throughout my travels I've had the opportunity to meet and talk with a lot of different types of people all over the world. And they've all had one thing in common
Their Greatest Fear Is Uncertainty
We may have heard this before but the real question is: How does this impact how people choose to behave?
Let me paint you a picture of how this shows up in your daily life because I promise you've experienced this multiple times today alone.
This morning, you probably checked your phone before even getting out of bed.
Why?
Because you needed to know what was waiting for you before you faced the day.
You took the same route to work, ordered your usual coffee, maybe even sat in the same spot you always sit.
These aren't coincidences—they're your brain's way of avoiding uncertainty.
Now think about last week for a moment.
How many times did you avoid sending that text because you weren't sure how they'd respond?
How many times did you stay quiet in a meeting when you actually had something valuable to say?
How many times did you put off making that phone call you've been meaning to make?
Or maybe you found yourself scrolling through social media instead of working on that project?
Here's the thing—none of these moments feel like "fear" when they're happening. They just feel like... the easier choice.
However, what's really going on is that your mind is constantly scanning for situations where you can't predict the result, and it's steering you away from them every single time.
The more you follow these subtle nudges toward what feels certain and safe, the smaller your world becomes.
And most people have no idea this is even happening.
The reason why this is worth exploring is because Behavior is what changes the ways of the world.
Let's explore that for a moment
The fear of not knowing what will come next drives people absolutely mad.
It throws them into fight or flight and causes them to make decisions they usually regret later.
But that's not quite the lightbulb moment that hit me while I was on my hike the other day.
Here's what came through.
It would make sense that even the ultra rich fear uncertainty, after all, they're still human.
But they're in a different position because they've got more to lose in terms of wealth and power.
So for them, the stakes are much higher and this creates even more anxiety and stress.
They're also not used to living without their comforts—ever…
It's why during COVID everyone, especially the rich were found to be overstocking things in a frenzy.
They can't imagine life without their money and comforts.
Which leads me to the question that I asked myself next.
"If I were ultra rich, why wouldn't I try to control uncertainty so I wouldn't have to deal with that pain of not knowing?"
Let's think about it for a minute
Humans are hardwired to heavily resist painful moments and magnetically drawn towards comfort and "feel good" situations.
If you could control things around you to a certain extent, you could officially get rid of the truly awful feeling that uncertainty brings.
Just like it's common to pop a pill when you have a headache or some other form of discomfort that you believe shouldn't exist, the ultra rich have made it a goal to never deal with uncertainty again.
So how can they do that from their pedestal exactly?
They can attempt to control:
The direction the world moves in
The systems that govern how people operate
How wealth is generated and taxed (making sure it benefits their situation)
If this doesn't seem truthful at first glance, ask yourself this:
"If I was in a position of absolute power, and could control uncertainty in my favor so that the future was always certain, why wouldn't I want that?”
The reward given here is essentially being able to predict the future because you're the one creating it.
You know exactly where the world is going and what will happen.
So there's nothing to worry about.
It's secretly what we all want, yet almost all of us realize we are powerless at achieving this outcome.
Of course, the ultra rich are never going to admit that they're grooming the new system so that it suits them perfectly—and whether or not it suits you is not their concern.
So how can you take this info and use it to your advantage?
Well, since most of us can't control global systems like the ultra rich, we need a different approach.
But here's what's fascinating - while they're trying to control uncertainty from the outside, we can master it from the inside.
And interestingly enough, this might actually be the better path anyway.
Instead of trying to eliminate uncertainty from our lives, we can learn to work with it.
And uncertainty is where all the growth happens.
So what do you do when you notice a feeling of uncertainty coming on?
Through my own experience and observations, here's what I've found actually works:
The first thing you can do is simply name the feeling when you feel it.
The moment you notice yourself avoiding something, pause for a second and ask yourself: "What is this emotion I’m feeling?” Is it:
Anxiety?
Worry?
Fear?
Frustration?
Overwhelm?
Sadness?
Just naming it takes away half of its power over you.
The second approach is to start small and build your tolerance.
Pick one tiny uncertain thing each day and do it anyway. Send that text you've been avoiding. Take a different route home. Order something new off the menu.
You're literally training your brain to realize over time that uncertainty won't actually kill you.
Third—you can reframe how you think about uncertainty itself.
Every time you catch yourself thinking "I don't know what will happen," try adding "and that means anything could happen—including something amazing."
And finally—get comfortable with the actual feeling.
When uncertainty hits and your chest gets tight or your mind starts racing, don't run from it. Breathe into it. Feel it fully.
The feeling itself can't hurt you—it's just energy moving through your body.
The beautiful thing about all of this is that while the ultra rich are spending billions trying to control the future, you can become truly free by learning to surf the waves of uncertainty instead of fighting against them.
The thing I find the most fascinating is people who can handle uncertainty have a massive advantage in life because they're willing to take the risks that others won't.
So the next time you feel that familiar tightness in your chest when faced with the unknown, remember this:
You Always Have A Choice.
You can let uncertainty shrink your world like most people do.
Or you can use it as a compass pointing toward your next level of growth.
The ultra rich might be trying to control the future to avoid the storm of uncertainty but guess what you can do?
You get to dance in the rain. Because you understand how it works.
And that might just be the most powerful position of all.
